This 10-minute video encapsulates the purpose, spirit, and mission of the Anne Stirba Cancer Foundation. In it you will hear stories from breast cancer survivors and meet some of the doctors and researchers at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Special thanks to SaltTV, who created this video June 1, 2010
The Anne Stirba Cancer Foundation was formed by Salt Lake City attorney Peter Stirba in memory of his wife, Utah state trial court Judge Anne M. Stirba. Judge Stirba’s battle with breast cancer, and her attitude and courage in fighting the disease, served as an inspiration to all who knew her. Her 10-year battle with breast cancer ended in 2001. While her personal fight is over, her legacy is not.
The Anne Stirba Cancer Foundation carries on her fight and that of millions of others, as we work together to find a cure for breast cancer. Our sole aim is to support the research being done at the Huntsman Cancer Institute as they work aggressively for a cure.
As one way to cope with the loss of his wife, Peter started an annual 5K race, the Judgesrun, in her honor. Over time, this modest event has become a major local cancer philanthropy, the Anne Stirba Cancer Foundation, which has raised tens of thousands of dollars to support breast cancer research at Huntsman Cancer Institute. The tender way he talks about his daughters explains his real motivation. Understanding that cancer is a genetic disease, Peter says, “I look forward to a future free of cancer for Emily, Melissa, and future generations.”
The Foundation is a charitable, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising and contributing funds to breast cancer research at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Foundation organizes various benefit events each year to achieve this aim. Among the annual events hosted are a gala concert at Abravanel Hall, a 5K Fun Run/Walk (now in its fourteenth year), and the Survivorship Celebration as part of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation’s annual gala dinner.
The Anne Stirba Cancer Foundation is always seeking sponsors for its various events. All sponsorships and donations are tax-deductible. For more information, please contact Jenn Kikel, Executive Director, at 801-428-0684.
